Wildcats Begin Weekend with Victory at Missouri Valley

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team opened a key weekend of conference action with a four-set victory over Missouri Valley College Friday night in Marshall, Mo.

The Wildcats, who improve to 17-6 overall and 9-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, close the two-day trip to mid-Missouri with a matinee match Saturday at 20th-ranked Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at Puckett Fieldhouse.

In a nip-n-tuck match against the Vikings, the Wildcats were able to escape with a 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24 victory.

Three players registered double-doubles for the Wildcats in the match with Madison McClain leading the way with 22 kills and 25 digs. Heleine Filipe added 17 kills and 18 digs, while Lauren Bloom recorded 50 set assists and 15 digs.

In all, the Wildcats had five players in double figures in digs on the night. Veiauna Herman and Kyla Ellis joined McClain, Filipe and Bloom in double digits with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

Ali Scott complemented the play of the McClain and Filipe with nine kills in the middle. She also has two blocks. Ashley Brawley led the Wildcats with three blocks.
