Women's Volleyball Posts Senior Day Victory over Clarke

An emotional senior day ceremony led to a slow start for the Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team, but the Wildcats turned it on when they had to and posted a 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19 victory over Clarke University Saturday afternoon at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats, who snapped a three-match losing streak, seemed sluggish in the opening set despite attacking at a .346 clip. C-SC recorded 13 kills on 26 attempts and only four errors. The second set was all Pride, who grabbed the lead at 5-4 and never relinquished it.

In the third set, the Wildcats gutted out a victory after trailing early. In fact, C-SC 16-15 in the set before a kill by Ali Scott tied the game, and then Heleine Filipe served five consecutive points to give the Wildcats some breathing room. C-SC eventually led 24-17 and Clarke put a scare into the home team before finally succumbing by two points.

In the fourth set, C-SC busted out to a 5-0 lead and was never gave up the lead to close out the match in style.

Filipe finished the day with a team-high 15 kills on 30 swings and a .333 attack percentage. Madison McClain, after a slow start, ended the day with 12 kills and three service aces. Scott garnered eight kills, while Lauren Bloom had 31 set assists.

Defensively, McClain led the way with 18 digs to give her another double-double on the year. Veiauna Herman totaled 14 digs in the back row. Filipe and Blanca Martino were strong up front, combining for 11 block assists in the match. Filipe registered six while Martino had five.

The Wildcats, now 18-9 overall and 10-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, are slated to play their final regular season match this Tuesday, Nov. 1, against Evangel University. The first serve is set for 6 p.m. at Charles Field House.
