Wildcat Volleyball Goes Winless at Hastings Classic

The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team ended its season-opening weekend winless after dropping two matches against a pair of teams receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason National Poll on the final day of the Hastings College Classic in Hastings, Neb.

The Wildcats, who began the season Friday with losses to Bethel (Kan.) and 18th-ranked St. Mary (Neb.), held their own early in the opening match Saturday morning before succumbing to Kansas Wesleyan 25-20, 25-23, 25-10.

C-SC ran out of gas and never threatened in the final match of the tournament against Oklahoma Wesleyan, falling 25-14, 25-9, 25-11.

Against Kansas Wesleyan, the Coyotes held a 46-30 edge in kills and had an attack percentage of .300 to .120 for the Wildcats. Ashleigh Brawley led a balanced attack for C-SC with seven kills. Zoe Irvin and Dilan Perry contributed six terminations each, while Lauren Bloom and Sam Wright garnered 15 and 10 set assists, respectively.

Defensively, two players reached double figures in digs with Kelsie Schieppe leading the way with 11. Kyla Ellis added 10 digs. Up front, Brawley recorded three total blocks while Emma Daleen had two assisted blocks.

C-SC managed just 17 kills overall and a negative attack percentage (-.012) in the setback to Oklahoma Wesleyan. Norah Boggs and Perry combined for half of the kills with Boggs netting five terminations and Perry four. Perry also led the defense with 10 digs.

The Wildcats will attempt to earn their first victory this Tuesday, Aug. 29, against Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Mo. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. inside the Mabee Sports Complex. The Trojans are 0-2 this season.
