Women's Volleyball Begins Home Season with Loss to William Penn

The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team began its home season with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 Heart of America Athletic Conference loss to William Penn University Tuesday night at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats attacked at a .200 clip in the first set, registering 12 kills on 30 attempts with six errors. However, they slipped to .174 in the second set and just .075 in the final set. Meanwhile, the Statesmen were on point with their hitting, committing just 12 errors in the entire match, and finishing with a .286 attack percentage for the match.

Ashley Brawley continues to play well in the early part of the season, recording a team-high 10 kills on 18 attempts. Brawley garnered a .333 attack percentage, which was tops on the team. Freshman Emma Daleen tallied eight terminations while Zoe Ervin totaled six kills in the match.

Laura Bloom led the Wildcats with 23 set assists while Kyla Ellis provided two service aces. Ellis was also the leader on defense with 15 digs in the match. No other player had more than six digs, and the Wildcats managed just one block in the match.

C-SC is slated to play in the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9 in Salina, Kan. The Wildcats are scheduled to play John Brown (Ark.) at 5 p.m. and Haskell (Kan.) at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, C-SC plays Kansas Wesleyan at 10 a.m. and Bethany (Kan.) at 2 p.m.
