Netters Can't Take Advantage of Fast Start, Fall to Clarke in Four Sets

The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team wasted another fast start in a four-set Heart of America Athletic Conference loss to Clarke University at Charles Field House Tuesday night.

For the second consecutive match, the Wildcats jumped out quickly and took the first set 27-25. In the second set, C-SC led 6-0 before the Pride was able to win a point.

C-SC led by as many as 18-12 and 19-13 in the second set; however, Clarke rallied by winning 12 of the final 15 points to take the set 25-22. C-SC never recovered.

The Pride only got stronger as the match progressed, winning the third set 25-14 and the fourth set 25-17. 

The Wildcats recorded 27 kills against 14 hitting errors in the first two sets. In the final two sets, C-SC had trouble offensively, committing 18 attack errors on recording just 17 kills.

Emma Daleen led the Wildcat offensive attack with 11 kills while Zoe Irvin registered 10 terminations. Ashleigh Brawley chipped with nine kills.

The Wildcats did record seven service aces in the match with Abi Smallwood garnering three aces and Lael Temple two service aces.

Defensively, Kyla Ellis garnered 40 percent of the digs for the Wildcats in the back row, picking up 21 of the 51 digs by the Wildcats.

C-SC, now 3-12 overall and 0-5 in the Heart, is off until Tuesday, Sept. 26, when they play at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. The conference match is set to start at 7 p.m.
