Women's Volleyball Drops Heart Match to Peru State in Five Sets

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team took Peru State College to five sets before falling to the Bobcats in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match Saturday morning at the Al Wheeler Activity Center in Peru, Neb.

The Wildcats captured the first set in extra time with a 27-25 victory. After Peru State won the next two sets 25-17 and 25-22, C-SC rolled to an easy 25-10 fourth set victory to force a fifth and deciding set.

In that decisive set, the match went back and forth with neither team holding more than a two-point lead throughout the set. C-SC grabbed the biggest margin at 8-6 after a kill by Ashleigh Brawley; however, the Bobcats answered with two straight points to tie the set at 8-8.

The Wildcats took their final lead at 10-9 on a kill by Zoe Irvin, but Peru State answered with a pair of points to re-grab the lead. The two teams traded points before the Bobcats broke a 13-13 tie with a pair of kills to finish the match.

Irvin led the Wildcats with 10 kills in the match, with Emma Daleen and Brawley contributing nine and eight terminations, respectively. Lauren Bloom totaled 33 set assists.

Four different players reached double figures in digs with Kyla Ellis leading the way with 19. Irvin added 18 digs and Bloom 15 digs to help them both record double-doubles. Dilan Perry garnered 14 digs. Brawley and Daleen each registered four block assists as the Wildcats recorded 11 team blocks.

C-SC, now 3-15 overall and 0-8 in the Heart, is slated to play at Mount Mercy University this Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
