Injury, CMU Take Down Wildcats in Three Sets

Injuries have been an issue with the Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team this season and the injury bug hit reared its ugly head again Friday night in a three-set loss to Central Methodist University at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats, who lost two potential starters to season-ending injuries before the season began, lost their top hitter  Zoe Irvin midway through the first set and never recovered in a 25-20, 25-14, 25-12 loss to the 22nd-ranked Eagles.

The injury really hampered the Wildcats offensively at the net. C-SC recorded 10 kills in the first set but totaled only nine kills combined over the final two sets. Irvin, who appeared to have an ankle injury, had one kill on two attempts before leaving the match.

Freshman Emma Daleen registered a team-high eight kills to lead the hosts. Ashleigh Brawley contributed five terminations in the middle of the offense, while Lauren Bloom had a team-best 10 set assists.

Defensively, the Wildcats were led by Dilan Perry and Kyla Ellis with seven digs each. Daleen had three blocks with two solo blocks and one block assist.

C-SC, now 3-17 overall and 0-10 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is slated to host Missouri Valley College Saturday afternoon, Oct. 7, at Charles Field House. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
