Spirited First Set Propels Wildcat Netters to First Heart Victory

A spirited effort in the first set propelled the Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team to its first Heart of America Athletic Conference victory Tuesday night at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first set and went on to earn its first three-set victory of the season with a 25-11, 25-22, 25-20 decision over Peru State College.

C-SC registered a .364 attack percentage with just two errors among the 33 attack attempts in the opening set. The Wildcats finished the set with 14 kills while limiting Peru State to just two kills in the set.

Sets two and three were pretty even throughout with the Wildcats earning key points late to end up on top. C-SC passed well throughout the match, not committing a reception error the entire night.

Individually, Zoe Irvin and Emma Daleen each registered eight kills to lead the attack. Ashleigh Brawley added seven kills and also had service ace and three block assists in the middle. Lauren Bloom totaled 18 set assists.

Allie Hull contributed a team-high 11 digs to led the defense in the back row. Irvin was also in double figures with 10 digs. Kyla Ellis and Dilan Perry garnered nine digs each. 

Daleen and Faith Hopgood joined Brawley with a solid wall up front, garnering three block assists.

The Wildcats, now 5-22 overall and 1-15 in the Heart, returns to action Friday, Oct. 27 with league match at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
