
Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Penn Tournament
The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team ended the William Penn Labor Day Tournament with split of two matches Saturday afternoon at the Penn Activity Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
The Wildcats, who dropped two five-set matches Friday, found themselves in another close match Saturday morning against Tabor (Kan.) in their opening match.
The Wildcats and Bluejays split the first four sets forcing the Wildcat to go to a deciding set for the fourth consecutive match. C-SC was up to the task and upended Tabor 10-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-13, 15-13.
Zoe Irvin led the Wildcats with 14 kills while Victoria Pollard totaled 12 terminations. Lauren Bloom registered 35 set assists and recorded a match-high four service aces. Defensively, Kyla Ellis garnered 22 digs to lead the back row.
After playing three five-set matches in less than 24 hours, the Wildcats finally ran out of gas in a three-set loss to Mount Marty (S.D.) in the tournament finale. The Lancers prevailed 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.
Irvin registered another double-digit kill game with 11 kills to lead the offense. Abby Godwin chipped in with seven kills and Pollard six terminations. Bloom had a team-high 16 set assists.
C-SC (2-4) returns to action this Tuesday, Sept. 3, with a match at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
