Women's Volleyball Goes 2-0 on First Day of Eutectic Classic
The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team went 2-0 on the first day of the Eutectics Classic at Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) in St.Louis, Mo., Friday night.
Victoria Pollard and Lauren Bloom recorded double-doubles in a 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 victory over Brescia (Ky.) in the first match of the day. Then in the second match, Pollard, Kyla Ellis, and Lael Temple registered double-doubles as the Wildcats upended UHSP in five sets, winning 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12.
In the victory over Brescia, Pollard garnered 10 kills and 14 digs while Bloom totaled 13 digs and 28 set assists to lead the winners.
Pollard and Bloom weren't the only contributors to the victory.
Zoe Irvin led the front row with 13 kills and Ashleigh Brawley recorded 12 terminations to give C-SC three players in double digits in kills. Abby Godwin tallied five service aces for the second consecutive match.
Defensively, Ellis led four Wildcat players in double figures in digs with 20. Joining Ellis, Pollard and Boom in double figures was Godwin, who finished with 12 digs. Brawley had four block assists.
Against UHSP, Pollard gathered 13 kills and 16 digs while Temple had 11 digs and 23 set assists in the five set victory. Elis totaled a team-best 29 digs and 10 set assists.
Addie Force garnered a team-high 16 kills to join Pollard and Irvin (15) in double figures in kills. Bloom led the Wildcats with 25 set assists.
Godwin and Brawley did work at the net, recording five block assists each in the match. Force and Mikayla Ziemianski totaled four block assists as the Wildcats 10.5 blocks overall.
C-SC (5-4) will play two more matches Saturday to close out the weekend tournament starting at 12:30 p.m. against Cottey (Mo.). The Wildcats conclude the weekend with a match against Missouri Baptist at 4:30 p.m.
