Wildcat Netters Win Two Matches at Stephens Triangular
The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team captured two victories during a triangular at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., Saturday night.
The Wildcats opened the night with a four-set victory over Bethany (Kan.) by scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-13, 25-17. C-SC finished the night with a 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-21 victory over the host institution Stephens College.
Against Bethany, Zoe Irvin garnered a a career-high 18 kills to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Abby Godwin added a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs as well as a match-high five service aces. Lael Temple totaled 29 set assists.
Defensively, Kyla Ellis recorded 19 digs to lead the back row. Victoria Pollard joined Ellis and Godwin in double figures with 12 digs while Faith Hopgood led the front line with three block assists.
Ellis was outstanding in the victory over Stephens, matching her career-high with 33 digs in the four-set match. Godwin also reached double figures for the second straight match, finishing with 15 digs.
Offensively, Ashleigh Brawley paced the front line with 10 kills while Irvin and Godwin had seven terminations each. Sam Wright garnered 19 set assists.
The Wildcats trailed 21-18 in the fourth set against the Stars but God win served out the match with seven straight points, including her team-high fourth service ace. C-SC totaled 12 service aces in the match with Ellis and Pollard adding three each.
C-SC (9-5) returns to conference play this Tuesday, Sept. 24, with a match at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
