Women's Volleyball Slips Past William Penn in Five Sets

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball rebounded from a disappointing five-set loss to Grand View Friday night to win the last two sets Saturday and claim a 25-16, 24-26, 21-25, 25-16, 17-15 victory over William Penn Saturday at Charles Field House.

The victory gives the Wildcats the series sweep over the Statesmen and improves their record to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. William Penn drops to 15-12 overall and 5-6 in the league.

The Wildcats used a strong service game, registering a season-high 18 service aces, including a season-best six from Ashleigh Brawley. Abby Godwin and Kyla Ellis had four aces each, while Victoria Pollard garnered three service aces.

Pollard also secured her second straight double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Pollard also had two block assists, including one in the crucial fifth set that tied the game at 13 apiece.

C-SC also put two other players in double figures in kills with Zoe Irvin and Brawley recording 12 and 11 terminations, respectively. Godwin and Addie Force contributed eight kills in the balanced Wildcat attack.

Lauren Bloom led three different setters with 24 set assists. Sam Wright and Lael Temple garnered 12 and eight set assists in a reserve role. 

Defensively, Ellis led the Wildcats in the back row with 20 digs. Godwin added 14 digs to join Ellis and Pollard in double figures.

C-SC is scheduled to play at Graceland University this Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Lamoni, Iowa. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. The Wildcats defeated the Yellowjackets in three sets back in September.
